Share Link guide

How to install Share Link on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, create your first share link, manage links and keep the app up to date.

Install Share Link

Windows

  1. Download the .msi installer from the download page.
  2. Double-click the file. Share Link installs for your user account only — no administrator rights needed.
  3. If Microsoft Defender SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC", click More info and then Run anyway. This appears because the installer is new and not yet widely downloaded/code-signed.
  4. Open Share Link from the Start menu.

Requirements: Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit (x64).

macOS

  1. Download the right .dmg: Apple Silicon for Macs with an M-series chip, Intel for older Macs. Not sure? Open Apple menu → About This Mac: "Chip: Apple M…" means Apple Silicon, "Processor: Intel…" means Intel.
  2. Open the .dmg and drag Share Link into the Applications folder.
  3. The app is not notarized by Apple yet, so the first launch needs one extra step. Use any of these:
    • In Finder → Applications, right-click (or Control-click) Share Link, choose Open, then click Open again.
    • Or try to open it once, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway.
    • Or remove the quarantine flag in Terminal:
    xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Share Link.app"
  4. After the first launch, Share Link opens normally like any other app.

Linux

Pick the package that matches your distribution from the download page (64-bit x86).

Debian, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Pop!_OS (.deb)

sudo apt install ./ShareLink-<version>-linux-amd64.deb

Fedora, RHEL, CentOS Stream (.rpm)

sudo dnf install ./ShareLink-<version>-linux-x86_64.rpm

On openSUSE use sudo zypper install ./ShareLink-<version>-linux-x86_64.rpm.

Any distribution (portable .tar.gz)

tar -xzf ShareLink-<version>-linux-x64.tar.gz ./share-link/bin/"Share Link"

Run the commands in the folder where you downloaded the file; replace <version> with the version you downloaded.

Android

  1. Open Share Link on Google Play on your phone or tablet.
  2. Tap Install, then Open.

Requires Android 8.0 or later. Updates are installed by the Play Store.

iOS & iPadOS

Coming soon. The iOS app is on its way to the App Store — this page will link to it as soon as it is live. Until then, iPhone and iPad users can open any share link in Safari to download files.

Automatic updates

  • Windows, macOS and Linux: the app checks for a new version each time it starts. When one is available you can install it in one click.
  • To check manually, open Settings → Check for updates.
  • Android and iOS: updates come through Google Play and the App Store.
  • The latest version for every platform is always listed on the download page.

Light & dark mode

Open Settings → Appearance and choose System, Light or Dark. System follows your device setting automatically. On this website, use the sun/moon button in the top bar.

Frequently asked questions

Is Share Link free?

Yes. Share Link is free to download on every platform and free to use for sharing files by link.

Does the recipient need the app or an account?

No. Anyone with the link can open it in a web browser and download the files. Only the person creating links needs the app.

How long do share links last?

You choose the expiry when you create a link. After that time the link stops working automatically. You can also stop sharing a link at any time from My links.

Where are my files stored?

Files are uploaded to cloud storage over HTTPS so recipients can download them through the link, even when your device is offline. Only people who have the link can reach them.

Which file types can I share?

Any type — photos, videos, PDFs, documents, archives, APKs and more. Recipients can preview common images and videos in the browser.

Why does Windows or macOS warn me when I open the installer?

The desktop installers are new and not yet signed/notarized with a paid certificate, so Windows SmartScreen and macOS Gatekeeper ask for confirmation. Follow the steps in the Install section above; you only need to do it once.

Which Mac download should I choose?

Choose Apple Silicon for Macs with an M-series chip and Intel for older Macs. Apple menu → About This Mac shows which one you have.

How do I verify a download?

The download page lists the SHA-256 checksum of every installer. Compare it with the output of Get-FileHash (Windows), shasum -a 256 (macOS) or sha256sum (Linux).

How do I update the app?

Desktop apps check for updates when they start, and you can check any time in Settings → Check for updates. Android and iOS update through their app stores.
